The 6th meeting of the IU/PU/IUPUI Joint Topology Seminar will be held at IUPUI in Indianapolis, Indiana on Saturday November 12, 2016. Talks will held in room LD 030, beginning at 10am and ending at 12:30pm, followed by lunch.

11:30am: Andy Putman
We study the space of group homomorphisms Hom(Z^n,G) of pairwise commuting n-tuples in a compact and connected Lie group G, from the topological viewpoint. We will describe a way to stabilize spaces of homomorphisms by introducing an infinite dimensional topological space, reminiscent of a Stiefel variety, that assembles the spaces of commuting tuples into a single space. Among other properties Hilbert-Poincare series will be also described.
Andy Putman, University of Notre Dame: The high dimensional cohomology of the moduli space of curves with level structuresI will prove that the moduli space of Riemann surfaces with level structures has a vast amount of rational cohomology in its cohomological dimension. No prior knowledge of the moduli space of curves will be assumed. This is joint work with Neil Fullarton.
Talks will be held in the basement of the LD building, room
LD030, on the IUPUI campus in downtown Indianapolis.
IU permits are valid in certain IUPUI surface lots. Detailed information is available here. There are two lots in front of the LD/SL building. Those with an IU A or C permit can park in either lot, and those with an IU E permit can park in the southern lot. Purdue permits are also honored at IUPUI. If you will need a parking pass, please email Dan Ramras (dramras at iupui.edu).
